The Rock?s impressive list of accolades just got longer: This week, Forbes magazine named The Most Electrifying Man in Entertainment one of the world?s most powerful celebrities, ranking him on its annual Celebrity 100 list.
The acknowledgment tops off a busy year for The Great One. Since April 2011, Dwayne ?The Rock? Johnson has starred in two Hollywood blockbusters ("Fast Five," the highest-grossing film in "The Fast and the Furious" series and "Journey to the Center of the Earth") as well as headlined two WWE pay-per-views, including a win over John Cena in their ?Once in a Lifetime? Match at WrestleMania XXVIII. His next major motion picture, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," is due out in June.
Forbes compiles its list based on celebrities? "entertainment-related earnings plus media visibility." Of The Rock, Forbes describes a Superstar who is "well on his way to becoming one of Hollywood's biggest action stars.?
In a related Forbes article titled ?The Rock is Kicking Ass and Saving Franchises,? The Rock discussed the unique rush that comes with performing live before the WWE Universe.
"They're all part of the show,? he said of the passionate WWE fans. ?They become part of the catchphrases, they become part of the jokes, they become part of the one liners, and they know what?s coming, and they know I?m listening to them. So we have this very unique relationship where they're the star, too."
Although the release of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is just over the horizon, the WWE Universe is already well aware that The Rock has more than just summer blockbusters on his mind. The night after WrestleMania XXVIII, he promised to win championship gold in WWE again, which begs the question: When Forbes releases its next Celebrity 100, will it include a WWE Champion?
